When I have the chance to photograph someone that I have watched grow up over the years it always make my heart happy. When Catherine contacted me about doing Monona’s pictures, needless to say I was thrilled. I remember little Monona back in the days at Melrose Elementary where she and my girls attended elementary school. Over the years, Monona has grown into a beautiful, talented, and intelligent young lady. Monona is a graduate of Gainesville High School, while at GHS she was active in key club and of course her swim team. When asked what one of her favorite memories of high school was she answered, “winning state last year for swimming.” Monona is a very dedicated young lady 5am morning swims to late nights studying at Starbucks. On the weekends, you could find her spending time with family or friends or working at Old Florida Cafe, an adorable little cafe right on the strip in Micanopy, FL. Great ice cream too on a hot day if I say so myself!
When I sat down with Monona and Catherine for their consultation, Monona mentioned wanting a more natural setting for her seniors pictures. After some discussion, we decided that the Micanopy area would be perfect for her session. Now I also found out that unfortunately Catherine would not be able to join us for Monona’s session. This is something I generally avoid not only for liability but because it is ALL part of the Experience, however it was unavoidable in our circumstances. The night before Monona’s session, I messaged her to bring some of her swim gear but to keep it a secret from her momma. Catherine and Monona chose my Lite Session, which has limited locations but I knew I HAD to incorporate swimming because it has been such a HUGE part of Monona’s life. As you can see from the pictures below not only were we able to find amazing spots in the Micanopy area but we were able to incorporate swimming perfectly. I have to say I was so excited about all of this and could wait for her mom to see the swim pictures at Monona’s image reveal. It was worth the wait, Catherine loved them and I even got some tears. Catherine’s reaction was exactly why I love my job so much! I love these kids and I loving capturing them through my lens.
As I watch all of my past seniors graduate and begin their lives, I am so thankful to have been apart of this moment in their lives and stand back and watch their journey. This fall Monona is heading to Bowling Green University in Ohio, she will be joining their swim team up there! Best Wishes and bundle up Monona, I know your future is bright!
